The following biographies summarize the exceptional careers of our board of advisors, who were selected because of the wide range of expertise in fields ranging from multi-family investing to hedge fund management and investment banking. Marcus J. Dash
Mr. Dash joined Goldman, Sachs & Co., a New York based investment bank, in 1974 and rose to become a General Partner and Head of the firm’s Private Capital Markets Group. He retired in 1992 as a General Partner and became a Limited Partner and consultant to the firm. When Goldman Sachs became a public company in 1999, he became an Advisory Director. He retired as an Advisory Director at the end of 2001. During his career, Mr. Dash concentrated on financing large-scale energy development projects and headed many of the firm’s most important project financing assignments. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1966 and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the same institution in 1968. He worked as an engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 1962 to 1972. In July 1974, he graduated from the Harvard Business School with an MBA degree and joined Goldman Sachs as an associate. Mr. Dash served as an adjunct professor at Georgia Tech for 10 years teaching courses in capital markets and finance. He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Arizona.
Angelica Morrone, has twenty years of experience in the financial markets. She began her career at Fiat USA, in the Financial Relations Group. Ms. Morrone’s responsibilities included the ongoing financial and strategic analysis of the automotive, biotech, farm equipment, luxury goods and steel sectors, all core businesses of the Fiat Group. After three years, she was appointed to head the Division and, in addition, assumed responsibility for the financial marketing activities of Fiat. Ms. Morrone graduated with honors from the University of Rome, Italy. Subsequently, she received her MS at Georgetown University. She received her MBA, with honors, from London Business School.
Gary di Silvestri
Gary di Silvestri, has over twenty years of investment experience in the international financial markets. He began his career at Morgan Stanley & Co. where he worked in the firm’s Investment Banking and Merchant Banking/Venture Capital Groups. During his tenure at Morgan Stanley, Mr. di Silvestri worked in New York and London, investing both the firm’s and client’s capital in public and private companies globally. After Morgan Stanley, Mr. di Silvestri joined Credit Suisse First Boston in London where he assumed global responsibility for the firm’s discretionary equity asset management business. Mr. di Silvestri graduated Magna cum Laude from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He was awarded a Rotary Scholarship to study at the University of Rome, was a finalist for the Rhodes scholarship, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Sigma Nu national honor societies. Mr. di Silvestri received his MBA, with honors, from Columbia University Business School. While at Columbia, he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma national honor society for business scholarship.
Mr. Cleveland began acquiring multi-unit residential properties in Long Beach California in 1990. With three investor partners, they acquired 18 distressed properties through 1998 with Mr. Cleveland leading operations as the General Partner. With his wife Linda, they were the on and off-site property managers of all units. All 18 properties were improved to become top performers financially and operationally. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland are still the owner/managers of 11 of these properties in the Downtown/East side Long Beach area today. Mr. Cleveland graduated with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Tech in 1969 and a MBA from the University of Southern California in 1972. He then joined the Management Consulting Division of Arthur Andersen & Co as a project manager through 1980. He then joined a client manufacturing company in Los Angeles as Vice President of IT and other Operational areas of the company until its acquisition in 1989. Mr. Cleveland then began acquiring numerous single-family properties in Southern California before focusing on 8 unit + residential properties in Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland currently live in Tucson and continue to manage their properties in Long Beach through their Cleveland Investments staff in Long Beach.
